Services For Children in SE Calgary

At Harker, Chan & Associates in Calgary, we love caring for kids' smiles as they grow! We offer dental services that help address children's unique oral health needs, from birth through adolescence.

Healthy Smiles, Happy Smiles

One of the most important components to caring for children's oral health is child psychology.

Our friendly dentists have helped created a fun and social atmosphere for children at our office, to help them feel more at ease.

It is important that children have a positive experience with their dentist.

We always avoid using words such as “drill,” “needle,” and “injection,” and to make a concerted effort to help prevent dental phobias from beginning.

When it comes to children's dental health, our team places particular emphasis on the proper maintenance and care of deciduous (baby) teeth.

Baby teeth are instrumental in facilitating good chewing habits, proper speech production, and they also function to hold space for permanent teeth.

Children's Dental Services, Calgary Dentist

At Harker, Chan & Associates, we focus on the following areas to help keep kids' teeth and gums healthy, now and as they grow up.

Education

We educate children about oral health and hygiene using models, computer technology, and child-friendly terminology, emphasizing the importance of keeping teeth strong and healthy. We also advise parents on disease prevention, trauma prevention, good eating habits, and other aspects of the home hygiene routine.

Monitoring Growth

By continuously tracking growth and development in children, our dentists can anticipate dental issues and quickly intervene before they worsen. Also, working towards earlier corrective treatment preserves the child’s self-esteem and fosters a more positive self-image.

Prevention

Helping children establish sound eating and oral care habits can help reduce the chance of later tooth decay. In addition to check ups and dental cleanings, our dentists may apply dental sealants and topical fluoride treatments, advise parents on thumb- sucking/pacifier/smoking cessation, and provide brushing and flossing instruction.

Intervention

In some cases, our dentists may discuss the possibility of early oral treatments for children with their parents. In the case of oral injury, malocclusion (bad bite), or bruxism (grinding), space maintainers may be fitted, a nighttime mouth guard may be recommended, or reconstructive surgery may be scheduled.
