At Harker Chan & Associates in Calgary, our dentists offer wisdom teeth removal for patients experiencing tooth crowding, damage or infection of the wisdom teeth.
Third molars, often referred to as wisdom teeth, are typically the last four of 32 teeth to erupt (surface) in your mouth, generally making their appearance between the ages of 17 to 25. The term “wisdom” stems from the idea that the molars surface at a time typically associated with increased maturity or “wisdom”.
In some patients, we may recommend that wisdom teeth be removed due to inadequate space in the mouth. Limited space can prevent wisdom teeth from erupting properly. When this happens, the tooth can become impacted (stuck) in an undesirable position.
Extractions may also be recommended if wisdom teeth become of an active problem due to pain, swelling, decay or infection, or as a preventative measure to avoid future problems.
