How to Eat with Invisalign®

One of the main benefits of Invisalign clear aligners is that they straighten your teeth without restricting what you can eat. Here, our Calgary dentists share what you need to know about eating with Invisalign.

Eating with Invisalign is easy! Because they clear aligners are removable, there are no dietary restrictions. You can simply remove them to eat and drink whatever you'd like as long as you wear them for the recommended amount of time each day.

Eating During Invisalign Treatment

Unlike traditional metal braces that have many restrictions (due to food getting stuck in brackets and wires), Invisalign can be removed so you can continue to eat and drink all the things you love.

Just be sure to take your aligners out before having any foods or drinks other than cold water. Drinking sugary, dark drinks with your aligners in can lead to plaque build up. Hot beverages like coffee and tea can warp or stain them.

Brushing & Rinsing After Eating

Before you put your aligners back in after eating or drinking, be sure to clean them and your teeth first. Food can get trapped between your teeth and your Invisalign aligners, which can be damaging and cause tooth decay.

If you aren't able to brush after you eat or drink, it’s best to at least rinse your mouth and the aligners with water before putting them back in.

Putting Your Aligners Back In

Invisalign aligners should be worn at least 20 hours each day so be mindful of the total time you remove them daily. The idea is to keep them in as much as possible to see the best treatment results.
